Hi all,

I am looking at giving my current PC to my partner, so I am needing a new build.

What will you use the PC for? - I use my PC for Gaming - Looking at mainly GTA 6 once it drops, Music production/engineering and editing. I also use it to work from home as well.

I don't really have a budget but looking around £2.6k mark.

I am currently thinking of:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
32GB (2x16GB) DDR5/6400mhz
GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER

As the main components. - I use a triple monitor set up - don't know if this is relevant.

As for advice goes, would it be worth to go with Intel or will the AMD be better for the music production side.

I am also thinking on whether it would be worth to go for 64GB RAM instead due to the amount of high intensity plugins that get used when im on Protools or FL Studio? - Is it worth it.

Can definitely fit a 4090 with that budget if you really want;

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor (£315.00 @ Amazon UK)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE WHITE ARGB 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler (£35.58 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX V2 ATX AM5 Motherboard (£174.96 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory (£219.59 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: ADATA XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (£120.60 @ NeoComputers)
Video Card: MSI VENTUS 3X E OC GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card (£1599.00 @ Computer Orbit)
Case: Fractal Design Pop XL Air ATX Full Tower Case (£102.76 @ NeoComputers)
Power Supply: Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 - V2 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£99.98 @ Scan.co.uk)
Total: £2667.47

7800X3D is the way to go IMO. Intel performance is fine, but Ryzen is significantly more efficient in terms of power and cooling, for pretty much the same or better performance.

64GB RAM seems the move to me. 16GB is bare minimum these days. If I was building a system today, I wouldn't be using less than 32GB. 6000MHz @ CL32 is basically the same as 6400@CL30 so just get whatever you can find cheaper/easier. Non RGB would save you some money obviously, but that's up to you.

Case is personal preference, and there's plenty of good options. Pop XL Air is just my default higher mid range pick these days lol. Same for the cooler really.

I'd probably add more storage but not sure what you need exactly. 2TB S70 Blade or similar is a good start but I'd personally add another 1TB or 2TB NVMe SSD and then 1 or 2x 3/4TB HDD's.

Dropping to a 4080 Super saves you 600 quid, obviously. Just buy whichever cooler you prefer the look of, in the highest end GPU you can afford/justify.
