PS4 Pro will not include 4K Blu Ray support

4.6
Sony has just revealed its PlayStation 4 Pro console, which means we’ve generally focused on what it’s capable of, be it HDR support, cross-platform compatibility for all games, and so on. That said, the PS4 Pro can’t do everything – specifically, play 4K resolution Blu-Ray movies.

According to Stuff.tv the highly advanced PS4 Pro will not support 4K Blu Ray discs, which explains why the feature wasn’t mentioned. That said, 4K Blu Ray remains a selling point for Microsoft’s competing Xbox One S and Project Scorpio systems.

Now, does a lack of 4K Blu Ray support mean the PS4 Pro will fail? Probably not – the Pro is a games system first and media player second. That said, its absence is really strange considering the Pro supports games, Netflix, and YouTube in 4K resolutions. And that’s not getting into the fact that the entire Blu Ray brand itself is a Sony property. So how can the Xbox One S incorporate 4K Blu Ray into its advanced console while the PS4 Pro cannot?

Sony will likely respond to these questions soon, but it’s probably not going to look great for one of these games publishers in the near future.

Are you serious? "Huge upgrade" yet they cant put their own product into their own console. At least it can stream it.

MudBlood Who even uses Blu-Ray? Not that big of a deal if you ask me

Obviously you don't have a $5000 home theater set-up like myself "$2000 4k HDR Sony TV and $3000 7.1 surround" because if you did then you would understand the importance of 4k blu-ray. Streaming movies is compressed and doesn't look near as good as uncompressed discs do. Also, with streaming Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Master, Atmos, and DTS:X are out of the question. If you haven't heard a properly set-up audio system that costs money then you don't know what you are missing. Blu-rays are more for audiophiles nowadays like myself.

Why is Sony releasing a Slim In September and 2 months later another console? The slim is not going to sell much since everyone will just get the pro doesn't make sense to me they should of release the Pro next year and the slim In October/November, Whatever the Scorpio will be my choice for sure.

Honestly, I don't know many people who buy Blu-ray and I don't either so if I were to buy the PS4 Pro it wouldn't have any effect on me.

That's a shame that the PS4 Pro will not support 4K. Never mind...
