Analyst Michael Pachter says PC gamers are like arrogant racists

Gaming industry analyst and managing director of Wedbush Securities, Michael Pachter, has never been one to shy away from offering the occasional controversial opinion, but his latest statements are pretty astounding, even by his standards.

Speaking during an interview with the Daily Star, Pachter said: “I think PC Gamers are like racists; they only like their own kind and they have no interest in venturing out and mixing with other races. PC gamers are arrogant twits who are convinced what they do is better than what anybody else can possibly do.”

An enlighting statement from Pachter. PC gamers are, of course, unique when it comes to feverish devotion to one's chosen platform; such a thing has never happened in the history of consoles or other computers, no sir. Comparing PC owners to racists certainly seems rational.

Pachter added more words of wisdom when discussing the upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro. “ If you were an Xbox owner and you’ve always wondered what it’s like to be a PlayStation owner, this is a great opportunity. And I think if you’re not a [next-gen] console owner at all – which would include a subset of PC users – this is the one you would buy. This [PS4 Pro] is the obvious choice.”

The analyst’s comments aren’t limited to calling PC gamers arrogant, racist twits, he also pointed out the slightly obvious fact that Nintendo’s NX won’t sell a lot of units if it turns out to be a $400 handheld device. Speaking to Gaming Blot, he said: “If it’s a console and costs $199, it will sell extremely well; if it’s a handheld and costs $399, it’s dead in the water."

The “PC Master Race” meme, which Pachter is doubtlessly using as the basis of his claims, has been around since 2008. It is nearly always used as a tongue-in-cheek term; comparing it to something as extreme as racism is pretty incredible for a veteran industry analyst. And, as he alludes to himself, a large number of PC gamers own at least one console, so it’s not as if we hate “mixing with other races,” that would just be racist.

wtf really? We as PC gamers have one thing which console gamers don't. Which is modding community. I appreciate modders that spend their time making awsome mods which good amount of them are better than paid DLC's from official games studios. They don't need to do this, they don't get paid for making them. But they do to make the game be more enjoyable. For example If I played fallout new vegas on xbox i would get bored very fast after compleating the game but on PC its a different story. This **** can say whatever he wants but PC gamers and moders and very intelegent and making the modding expierence more alive and keeps motivating more and more pregramers to make awsome mods for our personal favourite games.

Guy is an absoulte idiot. Sorry we don't want to play on locked out, inferior products and we want what is best for the industry and our platform. So much of the pcmasterrace stuff is a joke and complete satire. I don't know of any PC gamers who don't support cross play.
Sorry we think 60fps 1080p is a standard and not a luxury. Sorry we don't want to play on your shitty ps4 pro 4k res in the lowest texture settings.

"Most" of PC gamers are like nothing you describe whatsoever. You're telling me you have met and played with a significant portion of the PC population? That is very hard to believe. Way to generalize just like this asshole journalist.

You are going to find horrible people on both consoles and PC. Is he forgetting the classic stereotype of "i f*cked your mom". PC players aren't all like this. PC players do not hate console players. We hate the practices of console companies, Microsoft and Sony, and the way they mistreat console players.

I am happy to play with console players. I welcome cross-platform gameplay such as that introduced with Rocket League. Why separate out peoples' ability to have fun and limit your audience.

The whole 'PCMR' concept is to enlighten console players about how they are mistreated and that from a technical standpoint, yes, consoles are worse compared to the PC platform as a whole. The consoel players just get defensive like "omGEE no one cares about graphics" or the typical shit like "Can't see above 24FPS". If this were so, XBox and Sony would not now be trying to push their "4K" platforms, the Scorpio and the PS4 Pro.

At the end of the day, we are all gamers. We just want to have fun.

Whats wrong with thinking something is better than something else? If I think PC gaming is better than console gaming how does that make me a bad person? Comparing this to racism is TOTALLY ok... sure. "they only like their own kind and they have no interest in venturing out and mixing with other races" what im taking from this is that PC players generally dont own a console to play games on alternatively. Well from personal experience playing ALOT of PC games and then jumping onto an inferior platform such as xbox is too much of a jump to be able to play. If im playing GTA on PC and then try and play it on console I would get DESTROYED...

People like this guy are what is wrong with the gaming community and one of the many reasons why I will never call myself a "gamer"
