Xbox Scorpio Will Run 360 and One Games Without ‘Technical Wizardry’

4.7
Xbox One Scorpio will be fully backwards compatible with Xbox One and Xbox 360. In an interview with Stevivor, Xbox head Phil Spencer noted that the console as specifically being designed so that Xbox 360 and Xbox One games ‘just run’ on it, without any technical wizardry’ required.

“We’ve very specifically designed it [on Scorpio] so Xbox games just run,” he said, referring to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles. “It’s nothing like Xbox 360 backwards compatibility right now — there’s a lot of technical wizardry involved in that. We didn’t want to have to do that again.”

That’s good- after all, one of the major points of these iterative consoles is that they will hopefully make libraries continuous, and never lead to generational breaks in libraries of the kind that we are otherwise used to. Now Phil, if you could just add original Xbox compatibility into the mix too, it would be much appreciated…

I hope this translates to I can play 360 discs on it

Now this I like. hopefully there isn't any bugs or delays

I hope they mean that this will allow 360 games to play without download, I doubt it but that'd be nice. I'm glad they are fixing this because playing most BC games lag when I play online.

Earn I know it sounds stupid but I didn't even think they could do this. This is amazing actually makes me wish I waited to buy this instead of getting my PS4 a couple months back since then I could play my 360 games.

In sure there will be deals so you can trade that PS4 in for for the new Xbox from MS

Looks like I won't be having to get rid of my games.

Great news that means I can play any of my old 360 games with no problems

That's awesome to hear for the Xbox fans to enjoy more games to play with. This is a very smart idea as well. GG Xbox

See this was the smart idea however why didn't they not implement the feature originally on Xbox One

This is honestly a bit surprising if they mean it in the way that I think they are. That means its going to have both x86 AND PowerPC stuff inside it. Quite a unique thing there

Maj What I still don't understand is the fact that the 360 as well as the PS2 could run games from their earlier gens. So why are they making it out to be some big time advancement? ...

Maj, The older consoles (XBOX 360 and PS2) both ran similar architecture of their predecessors, with a PowerPC based system. Newer console, instead use x86, which is more similar to PC processors and such. This same reason is why accurate emulation of older games for things like the Gamecube and Wii take so much more computing power than what the original consoles had, as they have to go through extra abstraction layers to work on the x86 system, causing a emulation and stuff to suffer too.
