Cesar Stastny, the particularly active Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer at Treyarch, has been quiet for a few weeks following the release of the mod tools open beta back in September.
But PCDev, as he’s known on Twitter, has emerged once again to bring Call of Duty players on PC more good news. The developer confirmed in a tweet that he’ll be releasing the files necessary to run unranked dedicated servers to everyone.
This means anyone can host and manage their own private servers with whatever rules they want, without having to go through Activision’s official servers. Stastny also said that more assets for the game’s mod tools will be released soon.
Coming soon for BlackOps3 PC: Unranked Dedicated Server files! A lot more Mod Tools assets! And some other stuff.

So far, Black Ops 3 has been the only game (post-Modern Warfare 2) to allow for this kind of freedom. Yes, it’s very late in its life cycle, but having the option to run dedicated servers and mod the game is well beyond anything offered by other modern Call of Duty games.
