Steam hit a record peak today with over 14 million concurrent users

According to PCgamesN by way of Steam Database, around 10.45 ET this morning, there were over 14 million concurrent users with the all-time peak hitting 14,206,607 four hours ago.

The game being played most at the time was Dota 2 with 951,942 users, followed by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with 675,195 and GTA 5 with 116,230 users.

Earlier this year on January 2, there were 13,910,000 concurrent users on the service which was an all-time high.

As of press time, there are 12,978,881 folks currently using Steam the game with the most folks in it is CS:GO.

I’d make some sort of nerdy joke about it, but since I’m one of those using it at the moment, I won’t.

its a good complex competitive game. Constant updates to change the game so its always fresh and still learning some interactions years after first starting. plus its completely free. Don't need to buy heroes or anything.

It's such a strange time for this to happen most everyone was back to working and back to school then I would have guess that this would happen over winter break
