Digital Foundry has tested yet another Xbox One backward compatible title to see how it holds up to the original. In this case, it is the recently added Grand Theft Auto IV which runs faster than the older model, but at the cost of the experience’s smoothness.

Grand Theft Auto IV is the latest addition to Xbox One’s backward compatible family along with its two standalone expansions The Lost and The Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Frame rate tests prove that the Xbox One version of GTA IV boasts modest frames-per-second advantages over the 360 version, but this is at the cost of frame delivery. The Xbox 360 version manages frame intervals between 16ms and 33ms, but the Xbox One version can hit upwards of 66ms between frames, resulting in a choppy presentation with some control latency.

A previous backward compatibility test by Digital Foundry had more positive results. The team tested the old and new versions of Call of Duty: World at War side-by-side, finding that the new version performed better in demanding situations.
