Capcom also revealed that since 1996 — which is when the series first debuted — the series as a whole has now sold 76 million units.
To give context to the 3 million, Resident Evil 7 shipped 2.5 million in its launch week (it launched January 24, 2017). To give even more context, this number is down substantially when compared to the 4 million copies Resident Evil 5 shipped in its first week, and the 4.5 million Resident Evil 6 shipped in its first week. Shortly after the game’s launch, Capcom’s shares fell, presumably because of the poor comparison.
Earlier this year, Capcom announced its sales projections for Resident Evil 7, stating that it hopes the game will have sold 4 million copies through March 2017. Whether it will hit this figure, well, only time will tell.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
