Xbox Scorpio price estimate revealed following latest 4K tease

4.4
While we know that Microsoft have no current plans to offer exclusive games for the Xbox Scorpio, we do know that the console will look to offer upgraded 4K gameplay over the base Xbox One - much like the PS4 Pro.

Being touted as the most powerful console ever created, it’s hard to expect anything other than a top price point for the console which is set to arrive later in 2017.

Early specs have revealed that the Xbox Scorpio will boast 6 teraflops of GPU, and will aim to deliver 4K gaming and support virtual reality.

The Project Scorpio will reportedly feature HEVC and VP9 codecs for decoding 4K streams for things such Netflix, as well as HEVC for encoding 2160p, 60 frame-per-second (FPS) video for Game DVR and streaming.

Based on those kind of specs, the team at hd-report believes that it’s unlikely the Xbox Scorpio will come cheap.

“If Project Scorpio is capable of native 4K capturing, then does that mean that we should expect Project Scorpio’s price to be well above the $400 range?" explains Matthew Byrd of hd-report.

“Perhaps, but it’s likely that Microsoft will not add-on the full price of 4K capture hardware to Project Scorpio.

“While a $400 plus price point for Project Scorpio is likely, you should expect Microsoft to treat Scorpio as a highly capable 4K machine with an entry point price tag.

"As we speculated at the time of that leak, that impressive feat might require a piece of technology which typically retails somewhere in the £240-320 range.

"While It’s highly unlikely the full retail price of such a capture card is going to be tacked on to the price of Project Scorpio, it is yet another aspect of the system which suggests Scorpio’s price might be dauntingly high."

Gamestop has also given a new update, confirming that they believe the new Xbox Scorpio console has a lot of potential.

I will be getting one anyways but once I see more at E3 it will probabaly just push me to buy it quicker. The price really ain't a issue I have already been saving.

Skates $400 isn't really a lot of money when you think about it. If people start saving money now they will be able to buy the Scorpio at launch.

I'm thinking a $599 starting price then reduced to $499 after a few months. Can't seee it being anymore.
