HMV: Black Ops has “every chance” of becoming biggest game ever

HMV reckons next month’s Call of Duty: Black Ops could well topple Modern Warfare 2 as far as sales go.

The UK retailer’s said it’s seeing “exceptional interest” in the shooter across all formats and that it has “every chance of being the biggest game release ever.”

“It’s certainly shaping up to become the largest pre-order that we’ve seen in-store and online on HMV.com,” senior buyer James Brooks says.

The expensive £129.99 Prestige Edition (HMV is one of 3 retailers that carry it) is almost sold out, he adds: “Stock is nearly sold-through now and very little is left.”

HMV’s not the only one with such a rosy outlook, either; GameStop’s said that pre-orders for the Treyarch game outpace those of Infinity Ward’s 2009 effort, while analysts expect it to at least repeat the success the brand saw last year.

-Yoshi- this is so ridiculous every call of duty is supposed to be the biggest and the baddest and the CoD's are going to be ever improving along with every other game

Lol I agree with Yoshi completely, it will be the biggest game release until the CoD after that, and so on and so on. :)

Buncez Woop, Woop!! but dont buy from these unless ya getting the Prestige edition. Buy from a supermarket they always do a price war so you'll get the normal edition cheapest there usually be 25 or less (MW2 was 22 from Sainsburys last year ;))

I was buying Forza 3 today and I waited in line for around 15 minutes of about 20 people. Literally EVERY person was asking what they should bring to camp out, out front of the store. What's the EXACT time they will open the doors. It's literally ridiculous. This game is going to make the previous Call of Duty sales look like decimal points compared to Black Ops. They did a GREAT job of hyping this game up.

lol your so lucky! I preordered the Hardened edition. I wish I could buy Black Ops for $25. :P
