Call of Duty WWII to Bring Gore, Grit, More Mature Presentation

4.6
There's no pleasant way to spin the events of World War II. There is no wholesome angle from which you can present the events of June 6, 1944 when allied troops stormed the booming beaches of Normandy. There was a lot of blood, gore, and grit on display that afternoon, and it turned out to be one of the most horrifying events in modern recorded history. There were, however, likely many more unrecorded battles just as nightmarish and gruesome. Apparently, Sledgehammer won't be giving us a sugar-coated version of war in Call of Duty WWII, and we can expect plenty of gore.

Eager soldiers on Reddit spotted the Sledgehammer Creative Director Cameran Dayton's bio on Twitter and noticed that it mentioned bringing "guns, gore, and grit" to the next Call of Duty. That may sound like a no-brainer, but if you think about it, Call of Duty games have typically shied away from gore. Sure, there's been a little blood when your shots connect, but not much, and death is rarely portrayed in a realistic or "gritty" fashion, Treyarch games (and Infinite Warfare) excepted.

CoD WWII could be taking things in a more mature direction, presenting the horrors of war in, well, a more horrifying way. When we first reported the CoD WWII reveal, we asked ourselves what Sledgehammer could do that hasn't already been done multiple times in Call of Duties past, especially considering the first three were World War II games. If you remember playing those games, you'll realize that they were quite tame in their violence, and perhaps that's what Sledgehammer will be changing.

So expect some gore and grit this November when you boot up the Call of Duty WWII campaign. Make sure you let your girlfriend or boyfriend know what's in store, and maybe wait until the kids are asleep before you boot it up for the first time. There could be graphic death scenes, limbs blown off, and other uncomfortable sights.

Glock- Finally, it's about time they return to true call of duty. If you don't like the gore well maybe you shouldn't play it.
World at War was great, especially when you would take peoples legs off with the double barrel shotguns.

I can only imagine what the graphics will be now.

Honestly a 18+ CoD game which takes advantage of the age rating could be amazing.

Exactly that's what we need is developers taking advantage of the Age rating...
