Patch notes for the spring update are not yet available to the public, but Battlefield YouTuber Westie got an early look at the upcoming changes. The full list of changes is too exhaustive for Westie to convey in its entirety, but the host does cover some of the update’s highlights in a recent video.
First and arguably most important, password locks are finally being introduced into Battlefield 1. Password protected servers will soon allow friends or clans to make servers private which, as Westie explains, can come in useful when practicing with a team, setting up a clan war, or recording footage for creative content, although these servers will be unranked.
Next up on the list is the introduction of the long-awaited Platoon option. Platoons can accommodate up to 100 players, with ranks assigned by the higher-ups in the organization. Westie covers a variety of bonuses and details surrounding the Platoon system, including support across multiple Battlefield networks, a feature that tags captured flags with a Platoon’s emblem if members lead the capture, the restriction of ten Platoons per player, and more.
Numerous gameplay tweaks are also part of the spring update. Several of these tweaks, like adjustments to Grenade spamming and the introduction of kill trading, have already been active on the game’s Community Test Environment for a few weeks. Another notable adjustment coming to the game is a medic spotting feature that allows healers to convey to downed teammates that they are on the way to revive them.
Finally, no seasonal Battlefield 1 update would be complete without new content. The spring update brings with it 19 new ribbons, five new dog tags, and four new weapon variants based on each class’s level 10 weapon. These weapon variants have also been on the game’s CTE for a while, but now the general community will get a crack at them.
