Years ago, alongside its Project Gotham Racing franchise, Bizarre Creations added a fun little shooter into one of the games, by the name of Geometry Wars: Evolved. It became a big hit, prompting the company to pump out a separate downloadable sequel, before it would eventually shut its doors years later, due to the somewhat average sales of its Activision racing game Blur.
Fortunately, the legacy of Geometry Wars: Evolved 2 lives on, as the game is now available to play on Xbox One. Featuring a variety of modes to choose from, along with online leaderboards that let you compete against your friends, Evolved 2 dishes up some great twin-stick shooting action that becomes more and more challenging with each wave you take on. On top of that, some of these modes are pretty nuts, especially when enemies come at you non-stop.
But that’s not the end of the legacy. Years later, various employees from Bizarre Creations would return and form Lucid Games, a new studio that produced a long-awaited follow-up to the Geometry Wars series a couple of years back, in the form if Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions. The game was released not only for Xbox 360, but other consoles as well – but now that version is also available to play on Xbox One, just in case you don’t own it already.
Like Evolved 2, Dimensions offers a variety of modes and challenges to choose from, along with a bevy of new power-ups that may be able to help you out in a pinch. The Xbox 360 version is surprisingly smooth, so if you haven’t upgraded to the Xbox One edition by now, it’s well worth checking out.
That’s it for Xbox One backward compatible titles this week – so far – but knowing Microsoft, it could have some big titles lined up in a few days. Don’t forget, it surprised us out of the blue with Dead Space 2 and 3 last week.
