Condrey spoke with GamesRadar about a handful of features planned for Call of Duty: WW2, including how the prestige feature will change. Apparently, instead of just getting a simple pin next to a player’s name, they will receive a bit more fanfare for their efforts. Condrey said:
“I think for multiplayer specifically, the act of Prestiging is really powerful – all these times you’ve Prestiged and you can largely only do it, historically to date, offline in your own home with a little bit of fanfare. Now you have a place to really celebrate that achievement in public amongst dozens of your friends and community members, so. Yeah there’s a lot more to come on Headquarters – as both a social and activity driven space that really showcases and celebrates your achievements and your personality.”
Sledgehammer previously announced it is planning to bring a new social area to Call of Duty: WW2, much like Destiny’s Tower. It sounds like the prestige recognition will play a significant role in this new Call of Duty social area. When asked if players will stand on a box in front of everyone while receiving a medal, Condrey responded “Yeah… that kind of thing, yeah.”
While it’s not readily apparent how that will play out, it’s obvious the team at Sledgehammer wants to make prestiging more rewarding and recognizable for players. New features like the upcoming social area and improved prestige setup are likely a big reason the Call of Duty franchise is experiencing a boost in support from gamers. As Activision CEO Bobby Kotick recently revealed, negativity for the Call of Duty franchise has “evaporated.”
