One of these missions is Operation Cobra. During World War II, Operation Cobra took place seven weeks after the invasion at Normandy on July 25th, and was designed to allow the Allied troops to escape Germany. This was the largest aerial bombardment in history with approximately 3,000 United States aircraft dropping bombs on the Nazi troops. Schofield makes the comment at around the 1:21 mark in the video by saying:
We’re going to places like Operation Cobra, which is the largest aerial bombardment.
It’s a brief remark, but it marks the first time in history that the famous mission will be part of a video game. Schofield also mentions that the Normandy Beach invasion will be part of the game, alongside the Battle of the Bulge and Paris.
Overall, Operation Cobra was the result of a coordinated effort that led to the collapse of the Axis in Normandy and allowed Allied troops a safe exit passage en route to victory in the war. Call of Duty: WWII will also focus on the Allied troops only in the campaign as playable German soldiers will not be included.
We’ll keep you updated on more details, but for now Call of Duty: WWII releases on both Xbox One and PS4 as well as PC November 3rd, 2017
