In an interview with Gamertag Radio, Microsoft’s Senior Director of Product Management Albert Penello spoke about why they made the decision to snooze on Day One pre-orders.
We are a long way away from launch. So I think we wanted to have a really strong E3 around talking about the product and talking about the games We are going to do pre-orders closer to launch, I think we are going to have some fun stuff to talk about with pre-orders that we haven’t talked about now.
It isn’t immediately clear exactly what Penello is teasing by saying they have “fun stuff to talk about” or how that may influence the pre-orders enough to delay it. More importantly, we still don’t know when we can start putting our hard earned cash on it.
Xbox One X has been the hardware everyone has been talking about both before and after E3. Many of the stunning games throughout the week have been running on the high-performance Xbox One X. Even Microsoft has been running the rounds, with Phil Spencer saying that “Xbox has always been about power” and Microsoft stating they are proud that to have the “densest” console ever made at a price point they are proud of.
