Forza 7’s 4K assets are limited to Xbox One X only

Forza 7 is going one of the largest games ever at a massive 100GB.

The title is one of the few native 4K first-party games on Xbox One X and Chris Tector, software architect for the game’s engine, boasts that it will achieve the same results as “a multi-thousand dollar PC” on the console.

All of those 4K assets are going to need a lot of space, but if you’re playing on an Xbox One, you won’t have to worry about spring cleaning your hard drive in advance.

Talking to Stevivor, a Microsoft spokesperson said that “With the launch of Xbox One X, when it comes to game content our intention is to download the correct assets to the correct console.

“This means, regardless of the TV you are playing on, 4K assets will be downloaded to Xbox One X (if available) and the standard 1080p assets will be downloaded to an Xbox One S.”

So if you have an Xbox One X and no 4K TV, you’ll still have to wrangle in a 100GB download.

The Microsoft representative went on to explain that as part of their “developer readiness for Xbox One X” the console has a feature that gives devs “significant flexibility when it comes to what gets installed on a user’s console.” And that extends beyond 4K assets.

4k games get supersampled on 1080p and lower displays which explains why you still get the 4k assets in the One X even without a 4k TV. This is a big deal and increases graphical fidelity quite noticeably, so most people definitely still want them. See https://youtu.be/906EEPlB3A

Perhaps they'll give the option to download only 1080p assets if you need space more than supersampling, but I imagine that could complicate things for the majority who simply want it to work without having to think about it.

So what if we don't want those 4K assets..? Because my tv is 720p and am thinking about getting a 1080p when the X1X comes out. All 4k's I could find are 40+ and there's no way I'm going above 32in, plus 1080 will feel like enough of an upgrade for me

Exactly. 100gb though for X1X user's. Time to invest in a few TB hardrive.
