Destiny 2 reveals how vaults will work in the sequel
Concern over the return of vaults arose when the sequel’s reveal trailer showed the old vaults getting blown to bits. Game director Luke Smith has put these concerns to rest with confirmation that new vaults would take their place in Destiny 2. With the Tower destroyed, vaults will now be found in Destiny 2‘s new social space called The Farm, found within Earth’s European Dead Zone.
After the confirmation of vaults, fans’ next question is how much they’ll hold. Expansions for the original Destiny expanded the size of the old vaults to comfortably fit all our gear, but Smith has no information for us on the new vault sizes.
“I exited my last meeting which was about some systems work,” Smith said, “and the vaults are always a topic of conversation and discussion for the systems team. We’re continuing to look at it, but nothing to share today.”
The new weapons players will be storing in these vaults have undergone some major changes compared to the armaments of the previous game, none of which are carrying over. Instead of weapon perks being randomly rolled, each unique weapon will have set perks, allowing for easier balancing by the developers.
Destiny 2 is slated to launch September 6th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC release date of October 24th. Players can look forward to getting hands on the shooter early, thanks to the public beta tests going live later this summer.
