And we might just be getting one. A German retailer by the name of CoolShop put up a listing earlier today (it’s since been taken down) indicating that a Street Fighter Collection is in the works for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the franchise. (The original Street Fighter arcade game came out in 1987.)
Capcom hasn’t provided any sort of comment on the collection, so, at this point, it’s not official – and the listing’s gone, as I said, so we don’t have any details either.
That said, before the listing was taken down, the company did have a description for the product, and it’s eerily similar to the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection that came out 15 years ago for PlayStation 2.
“Street Fighter Anniversary Collection commemorates the 15th anniversary of Capcom’s series of fighting games. The compilation includes Hyper Street Fighter II, which combines previous Street Fighter II features and character variations from previous Street Fighter II editions, and Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Hyper Street Fighter II lets you mix and match characters from the different versions for a variety of matchups. Street Fighter III: Third Strike offers a total of 19 different playable characters, a Grade Judge System, and a Progressive Hit Frame System.”
That said, Twitter user Shinkendo has confirmed that the listing is real, and has noted that “there will be more games,” which means we could see some other classics – like the original Street Fighter that started it all, as well as the Alpha sub-series.
Street Fighter V has been struggling on the market as of late, so an Anniversary Collection would hit the spot for die-hard fans. And Capcom is no stranger to releasing classic compilations on PS4 and Xbox One, with The Disney Afternoon Collection already making the rounds, and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 set to arrive next week.
