The people over at UC Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences have created an unmanned aerial vehicle that can navigate through environments and avoid obstacles using Microsoft's motion sensing device. The creators of this robot attached a Kinect sensor on top, which, in their words "delivers a point cloud to the on-board computer. Consensus algorithm fits a planar model to the points on the floor, and this planar model is fed into the controller as the sensed altitude."
