Friday the 13th: The Game Earns Guinness World Record for Crowdfunding

4
After an overwhelming amount of support from horror flick fanatics, Friday the 13th: The Game has earned a spot in the Guinness World Records 2018 due to its profound crowdfunding success.

With money pouring in through both Kickstarter and Backerkit, another popular crowdfunding outlet, Guinness World Records 2018 Gamer’s Edition lists Friday the 13th: The Game as the “Moss crowdfunded videogame based on a movie.” Raising several million dollars for the project, it definitely makes sense that such an iconic series would be able to accomplish such a feat.

The tweet above acknowledged by the game’s team and was retweeted through their main Twitter account to share the accomplishment. Raising an insane $2,060,651 to bring the project to life, players certainly had quite a bit of faith in the slasher game that released earlier in the year.

With the record that the game now holds being pretty specific, it does bring to mind what other games might’ve even come close to competing with Friday the 13th: The Game. Not many other Kickstarter projects received near as much attention as the horror game, so the second-place or third-place contender likely don’t fall anywhere near the game.

After the devs started raising money through Kickstarter and Backerkit, several incentives were offered to encourage backers and reach the lofty amount that the game raised. An exclusive variation of Jason, Counselor clothing DLC, and other special content was all accessible for those who backed the games at various levels. Stretch goals for potential content were also set depending on how much money was raised, and though the game didn’t hit all of the milestones on the list, Gun Media and IllFonic have made it clear that they plan to continue supporting the game with future updates and content.

Nah, it's doing pretty good, just it had a very bumpy start and even still bumpy solely because of the devs and other users that made it a mess in the start.

Glitches out the ass at launch and on PC - get this - no goddamn key remapping lmfao.

Then things spiraled the hell out of control when a user was banned for "sexual harassment" and "pedophilia" solely because the two people who reported him, knew the devs. The user who got banned started a mob mentality on Reddit and I would assume elsewhere. One of the developers then started banning people on Reddit for talking shit about the devs and it got to the point that if you weren't white knighting or kissing his ass, you were in his crosshair and every other ass kisser. THEN he and his family got doxx'ed and that information was leaked. After that, information came out about the actual banning and turned out the guy was being vulgar, there happened to be a kid - on a rated M game mind you - and these 2 girls came to the kid's 'rescue' telling the guy not to cuss or anything when there's a kid. They then started teaming up when the kid was Jason and telling where the guy was at, next round he team killed the kid, the girls got all butthurt and then he pretty much asked if they like little boy di** since they were riding him for so long. They said they knew a dev, would get him banned for sexually harassing them and talking about sexual activities while a kid is there; he said go ahead, nothing will happen and banned next morning. After that information came out, he made a topic telling people to stop doxx'ing the dev and to leave everything alone and he was doxx'ed himself.

After that bullshit, devs went pretty much silent on updates. Turns out, a new game was coming out by the devs which people thought they just straight up abandoned this game. Devs remained silent until mentioning that the dev team was already working on 2 projects from the start, just the other game was not known to have been worked on.

From there, team killers started going around rampant, devs said it's part of the game, Reddit became a circlejerk once again. Devs update saying it will be removed in the next major pack, again Reddit becomes a circle jerk against it. Ect, ect, ect.

Now, it's patches have been breaking things, with the most recent patch killing your performance no matter how good your hardware is and because they are really slow at delivering what they say will deliver. Soon-TM has become a meme within the community because there is supposed to be Singleplayer, new map, new Jason, new counselors, new clothing packs, updates to fix issues with perks and fixes for glitches, but devs can't/won't give an exact date so everyone just says "soon."

tl;dr - Game launched with bumps, then spiraled out of control because of predominately 4, maybe 5 people if counting a developer. Communication since then was straight shit. From there trolling took over in the form of team killing. Devs said it was part of the game. People weren't happy. Devs said they would fix it by removing team killing. People weren't happy. Now people are complaining about no specific dates for promised content such as updates, new maps, characters, ect.

The game is still doing great, it's just communication is not the best. It's gotten a lot better, I will give them that, but it still could use some working on. I have had very few issues finding games on Steam; however, don't know how console is doing. Game is still doing good popularity wise and I don't think it flopped once, just was bumpy due to a rough launch and then devs and members of the community.

Fair enough, guess i only read over half the story. But now that i've played it, its a dank ass game xD

I didn't even realise this was initially a kickstarter project - massive progress for them.

Decy Heard some bad things about this game but from what i've seen on youtube it does look pretty fun may have to pick it up.

As a player who has over 200 hours into this game, the gameplay is mostly great but the devs are not reliable for anything. Every update they push out breaks something else and it takes them weeks to fix that problem that arised, only for a new one to come out. It's a great game but the support for it is close to none.

Adding onto this, they have a bad track for communication. They are now starting to fix that which has been wonderful, be that on Reddit, the F13 forums or the new revamped site of theirs, but once upon a time, we could go a month or two without any communication or it was very vague.
