The Grand Theft Auto V modding community has set its sights on another city ripe for recreation. Like the previously hyped up Liberty City mod, this new city was also featured in an earlier GTA installment: the original games’ London, 1969 expansion, to be exact.

Grand Theft Auto V‘s Project London mod is coming to fans from modder Kieran, with help from fellow modders Raddz Modding and Albo1125. Speaking with PC Gamer, Kieran explained the sheer size of this undertaking.

“I got a message the other day,” Kieran said, “from some guy asking if the roads could be done—if the cars could be swapped to the opposite side in the style of British road networks. I sat down and calculated the work for that. I’m looking at 210 hours just for the roads.

“It’s a lot of work, it will take time, but whenever I’m finished one thing—I’ve just finished Heathrow Airport, for example—I add it into the pack, update it, and release it. There are three of us working on it now, and while we strive to mirror reality, if we think something looks right in situ, and it still looks like London, then we’re fine with that.”

Kieran hasn’t the slightest notion of when the mod project might be finished, considering the size of the task at hand. Currently, the modder and his team have a number London recreations on the map, including Wembley Stadium, several London Underground stations, various city hospitals, and more, but there is still so much left to be done.

Project London isn’t the first time a modder has attempted to bring a past GTA city into GTA V. The modding group behind OpenIV recently sought to put Liberty City next to Los Santos, but Rockstar shut it down, so hopefully Project London’s release will go more smoothly. In the meantime, GTA V modding fans can enjoy the recently released Grand Theft Space mod.
