Currently, Xbox One and Xbox One S users are limited to capturing at 720p, but that cap will be lifted in the near future. As well as this, Microsoft is giving users the option to capture footage directly to an external hard drive.
Both of these features are included in a new update that has been pushed to Xbox Insiders on the alpha ring.
It’s worth noting that the Xbox One X will be able to record footage in 4K at 60 FPS with support for HDR (High Dynamic Range) when it launches in November.

Last week, Microsoft pushed another update live to Xbox Insider alpha testers that introduced the previously announced “Light Mode” option for the Xbox dashboard. Light Mode and the Game DVR improvements will be included in the next major Xbox One system update, which also introduces a redesigned home screen that shows previously played games, follow suggestions, deals, and more.
