This is a sales milestone that even the original game took a few months to reach. While the game was Early Access beforehand, Divinity: Original Sin 2 has still sold around 180,000 copies since its launch last Friday. People seem to be liking the experience too. The few critic reviews published at this point are positive, and on Steam the game has a “Very Positive” rating based off of 5,426 player reviews at the time of this writing.
Swen Vincke, who is the owner and CEO of Larian, seems to be very pleased with Divinity: Original Sin 2′s sales results:
“It is fantastic, but it is also way beyond what we expected. We’re close to hitting 500K units sold which is a number I believe took us two or three months with Divinity: Original Sin 1.“
When asked if the success of Divinity: Original Sin 2 on PC could help green-light console versions of the title, he did not give a concrete answer, but did confirm that the team is already working on the game’s next patch:
“As for the console versions, we’re now focused on delivering our first patch for the PC version, something that is scheduled for this week. Lots of players means lots of support issues coming in and we’re trying to service them as fast as we can. After that, it’ll be a long well deserved break for the team and then we’ll boot up our machines again to work on the next things.”
As Divinity: Original Sin 2 has broken a Steam CRPG record, with around 85,000 concurrent players on launch day, some stress has come upon Larian’s servers for the game. Fortunately, Swen Vincke has stated that they are working hard to sort out and fix any server issues.
