That being said, World War II was no walk in the park, and the good folks at Sledgehammer Games appear to have dialed up the violence a notch to depict the unforgiving nature of one of the worst conflict of the history of humanity.
The descriptors shared in addition to the rating are Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Language.
According to the rating summary, which you can read in full below, some weapon attacks result in decapitation or dismemberment, leaving the ground decorated by blood stains and body parts. That’s pretty gruesome, but rather appropriate to the setting.
You can read the full description below, keeping in mind that it includes some very mild spoilers on the story, as it’s usual with ESRB ratings.
“This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of an American soldier through the Allied campaign in Europe during WWII. Players use machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, and explosives to kill enemy soldiers; some weapon attacks result in decapitation and/or dismemberment, leaving bloodstains and body parts on the ground. Battles are frenetic and accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large explosions. Cutscenes also depict instances of violence: a prisoner shot in the head at close-range; enemy soldiers shooting themselves to avoid capture. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the dialogue.”
