The Fortnite Twitter account announced this incredible milestone today, thanking everyone who has checked the game out.
This means that Fortnite Battle Royale has had more downloads that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the game that obviously inspired it. PUBG is currently sitting on 17 million sales.

Of course, there are many reasons for this. Fortnite Battle Royale is completely free, and available on PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC. It also came with a built-in audience of players who were already playing Fortnite’s early access build, which sold very well early on. PUBG is almost certainly more profitable than Fortnite, too – 17 million sales at $30 per copy is enormous.
As we know, though, the developers of PUBG are not pleased with Fortnite, with Bluehole VP and executive producer Changhan Kim speculating that being in direct competition with Epic could hurt the game’s progress if engine improvements are withheld from the team.
Fortnite Battle Royale can’t match PUBG for concurrent users, though – Fortnite’s 800,000 is a very impressive number, but Battlegrounds has the current Steam record with over two million.
Both games are doing extremely well. If you’re one of Fortnite Battle Royale’s 20 million players, let us know what you think of the game in the comments.
