Speaking during an investors call, the publishing giant’s CEO, Yosuke Matsuda, said that release dates for a number of major titles will be confirmed during the period “the end of FY2018/3 and E3.”
This means we could expect something to be revealed in the April - June 2018 window. Of course, there’s nothing to say that a launch window for Final Fantasy 7 Remake will definitely be included in any possible announcement.
Square Enix has a number of high-profile games in the works, including Kingdom Hearts 3, which we already know is due to ship at some point next year.
As such, this is a much more likely candidate, although we can’t rule Final Fantasy 7 Remake out entirely, as it’s one of the biggest games in the company’s schedule.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference. The game was later showcased during PSX later that year, with Square Enix confirming the project would be split into multiple parts.
In addition, the remake of the seminal 1997 JRPG will feature a host of new content, allowing players to explore new areas of Midgar. The characters of Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie will also be fleshed out.
Square Enix has remained relatively tight-lipped on a release date for the highly anticipated project, but has confirmed the game will turn up in the next three years.
Elsewhere in the call, Matsuda-san touched base on Nintendo Switch: “Nintendo Switch makes it easier for us to leverage our back catalog of assets and expertise, so we want to be proactive in creating new IP and rebooting past titles for that platform.”
