Piscatella noted that despite predicting 600,000 units for 2017, he felt that Microsoft would “blow past that” due to the number of units being manufactured. In terms of which console manufacturer could win for November – Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo – Piscatella said, “It could easily be any of the three.”
He also revealed his current assumption that everyone is doing well in the industry, at least among the Big Three consoles, and how it made the one that sold slightly higher a bit irrelevant.
“Yeah I keep trying to think of ways of how I can write the notes that emphasizes everyone doing well (which is my current assumption, but who knows). If all 3 consoles have spectacular months, from a market perspective does it really matter which one sells a few units more than the others? No, but if I don’t note the leader then everyone loses their minds.”
As for Black Friday digital sales, Sony and Microsoft saw “phenomenal” performance. With so many discounts on software, Piscatella believes November will be a “big month” for games as a whole. As for Nintendo, since it doesn’t share digital sales with the NPD Group, it’s slightly harder to predict.
