Just how big is this player base though, you ask? Well, developer Psyonix today announced that over the course of Rocket League’s life, they have now surpassed 40 million players worldwide across all platforms. Not too shabby when remembering just how quiet Rocket League was when it released nearly three years ago.
Of course, being on virtually every platform has surely helped Rocket League reach these highest of highs. The recent release of Rocket League on the Nintendo Switch last year made the game now available on all current-generation platforms. Plus, with the steady stream of updates that Psyonix is constantly pushing out for the game, they’ve ensured that players will continue to return time and time again while maybe bringing new friends into the fold as well.
Rocket League’s rise from being a small indie project to exploding into one of the premiere eSport titles in the world is definitely one of the most endearing and encouraging arcs we’ve seen in the industry over the past few years. What’s craziest is that the game doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon, either, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see Rocket League surpass another major milestone similar to this by year’s end.
