Microsoft to allow “dead” Xbox360 Gamertags to be used again

The move means that Gamertags previously used and now defunct will, slowly but surely, now become available again.

“Starting today, we have begun the process of making previously used and unavailable (dead) Xbox LIVE Gamertags available,” said the Xbox exec.

“This process will take some time to complete, and no we can’t tell you when the Gamertag you want might be available. If you are interested, you should check back regularly as we are reviving Gamertags daily.

“Sign into Xbox Live and go to the My Xbox channel, then select Change Gamertag. From here you can either choose from the random name generator, or you can enter a specific Gamertag to see if it’s available.”

So yeah. If you’ve always wanted to be called SkywalkerLolzor, or something, and Barry up the road’s nabbed it before you could register and then went and died, or whatever, now’s your chance to jump in his grave. In your face, death.

-Boe- Yes i think this is a great idea i hate when you wanna change your name and its takin so you add them and they have not been on in like 6 years and they still have the xbox gamer pic
yahh i know like a month ago i checked vinny and thats what it showed but now it says it dosnt agsit and i got to change it to that and it does...

Activating a dead gamertag that I famous person had before leaving XBL could equal scammers.

I really didn't know this was something new. I've had loads of gamertags myself, and i've switched from one to another and then switched back to my first gamertag and it worked, so what do they really mean with "bringing back" dead gamertags if they already are able to use? Doesn't make sense to me so far...
