It must be noted, however, that Microsoft has not yet announced any such feature for the Xbox Live platform, nor has it disclosed any intention to support game mods on Windows 10 or Xbox One.
The job listing states that the person would have a “unique opportunity to shape and bring to market a new set of services, tools and experiences allowing game developers to easily integrate mods into their games,” further adding:
You will work both within Xbox and across organizations, collaborating with UX design teams, experience teams, and service engineering teams from Xbox, first party studios, Universal Store, CELA, Policy Enforcement, and more. You will be required to provide strong leadership, contribute to the overall vision, set clear requirements, scope each phase of market release, and drive for success for our creators and enjoyment by our consumers.
A few select titles, such as Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, have implemented mod support on Xbox One, but that has been implemented entirely by Bethesda – the developer. It was announced last month that Cities: Skylines would also be adding a curated library of user-created mods on the Xbox One.
The Universal Windows Platform (UWP) has been criticized extensively for its numerous limitations; providing game developers with a way to easily support user-created mods in their UWP titles on Windows 10 as well as Xbox One could help make them more appealing to gamers, but may also introduce stability issues, impairing the experience expected from the Xbox platform.
