PUBG players all over the world have been calling for PUBG Corp. to add the ability to choose which map to play on, particularly after it became clear many just can’t stand Miramar and would rather play on Erangel.
The developer never said no to the idea, but always maintained that doing this could create problems for player population, among other things. Today, PUBG Corp. announced that the feature is coming soon to test servers.
In a blog post, the studio explained how it arrived at a solution that wouldn’t cause a population problem, particularly for regions that aren’t as populated as North America, and Europe.
“Ultimately, we created a version of map selection that we think is unlikely to cause issues for matchmaking. That said, we’ll still have to keep a close eye on it, since it could become problematic as new maps continue to be added,” the developer explained.
As you can see, this is what the feature could like in-game. You can tick the box next to the maps you want to play (one or more). The ones you don’t want to see can simply be unticked.
If you have more than one map selected, one of them will be randomly picked at the start of every match, similar to how it currently works. Having only one map selected will obviously only get you matches on that map.
Map selection will first hit test servers at some point soon, but work on the feature is practically done. Meaning that if it doesn’t break anything in testing, it should roll out to live servers soon after.
