Deadpool 2 Director Signs On for Film Adaptation of The Division

With its New York City setting and thought-provoking post-apocalyptic setting, Ubisoft’s The Division seems prime for an adaptation on the bigscreen, and now the feature film adaptation of the game is one step closer to release with a new director onboard.

Variety revealed in a report that the in-development film adaptation of Ubisoft’s The Division has now attached director David Leitch to head the project. Previously known for his directorial debut in last year’s Atomic Blonde, Leitch’s most recent project is the upcoming Deadpool 2 which is heading into theaters next month. He is also attached to direct a spin-off of the Fast and the Furious series starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham.

Originally announced in summer 2016, the film adaptation of The Division previously had director Stephen Gaghan (Gold, Syriana) attached to head the project back in January 2017, though he had left the project earlier this year with Leitch now taking over for him.

The film adaptation of The Division is expected to take inspiration from Ubisoft’s game series, while currently it is known that actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain are set to star in the film. No specific release date is set for the film just yet, though it is expected to enter production this fall and at the earliest could release sometime in 2019.

The Division is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while the upcoming sequel The Division 2 is expected to be revealed later this year at E3 2018.

This is actually a surprising move. Didn't see this coming but it actually kind of makes sense, people are really into infection / doomsday movies nowadays. Plus I feel like the story arc could actually support it
