E3 2018: PC Gaming Show Recap

4.3
Coffee Stain Studios may be better known for its absurd Goat Simulator franchise but it revealed a new IP recently – Satisfactory. The first gameplay trailer debuted at the PC Gaming Show at E3 2018 and as the trailer indicates, it’s all about building factories.

The premise is about creating a large machine but that requires tons of different parts. Players will start with smaller machines, gathering different materials, cutting down trees and eventually draining the planet of its precious resources. There are plenty of games that allow players to create enormous factories that are fully automated (Factorio comes to mind) but Satisfactory is in first person.

Why? Because the developer wants to give a more personal touch to the building. The player will be the one exploring, crossing different environments and biomes across 30 square kilometers. Multiplayer is also supported as up to four players can co-op together. A closed alpha is planned for the coming months so stay tuned for more information on a release date.

Mavericks Proving Ground:

If you’re a fan of Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds but just feel like it could use quadruple the player count, Mavericks: Proving Grounds might just be the game for you.

At E3 2018, the game’s developer, Automaton, announced it will kick off a beta of its 400 player last-man-standing games on August 18, 2018. Better yet, if you sign up for the free beta before Sunday, June 17th you’ll also receive an exclusive E3 content pack full of special cosmetic items.

The Forgotten City:

The Forgotten City is taking things a bit meta at the PC Gaming Show this year by developer Modern Storyteller.

Based on a popular mod, The Forgotten City is a re-imagining of the award winning mod, which won accolades for it’s storytelling.

The player searches through an ancient, underground city that seems to hold a portal through time. Players will need to go back through time, investigate puzzles and clues, and bend the rules of time to save everyone from a tragic fate of turning into golden statues.

The Forgotten City is a mix between first-person exploration and investigation, creating a new blend of investigative action-adventure to the PC. The game is scheduled for release in 2019.

The Sinking City:

Third-person action detective game The Sinking City made an appearance at The PC Gaming Show today with an ultra-creepy new cinematic trailer—watch that above.

The Sinking City is a Lovecraft-inspired adventure set in '20s America. It's got an open world, but the devs are most excited for their open investigation system, which'll see us hunting down clues without checklists or quest markers. There are monsters, too, so while "the game is not about fighting monsters," and is focused on investigation, you'll still have to defend yourself.

The Sinking City doesn't yet have a release date. It comes from developer Frogware, which has a history of detective games, most recently Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter. We'll have the full segment from the PC Gaming Show posted here soon.

Warframe The Sacrifice:

Yakuza Zero:

Killing Floor 2 - Summer Sideshow: Treacherous Skies:

Maneater from Tripwire Interactive was announced at today's PC Gaming Showcase at E3 2018. Maneater is an action RPG where you play as a shark.

Stormland:

Insomniac Games released a trailer for their VR game Stormland at the PC Gaming Show E3 2018. In this trailer we see the player character exploring until he’s brought back to life many years later. Once operational again we see the player begin exploring more to put himself back together and to begin exploring the world and heading home. There are both climbing and gliding mechanics. The combat allows you to weild a gun as well as a shield. If you encounter other robots you’re also able to revive them and have them tag along. CCO Chad Dessern from Insomniac spoke with Day9 to talk more about the game. You play as an android gardener who is destroyed by the Tempest and now you need to get above the cloud layer to begin repairing yourself. Every week the tempest will rearrange the landscape allowing players to visit new locations constantly.

Star Citizen:

Star Citizen made a showing at the PC Gaming Show at E3 2018 with a world exclusive.

The Alpha 3.2 update for Star Citizen will be coming soon. We were treated to a montage of players on foot, in ships, and in massive carrier ships in space and in the atmosphere. We got to see a variety of settings from the game and a few different scenarios including ground combat, space combat, and tranquil exploration on foot and in ships.

Aside from seeing a few nice bits of imagery from the game, we didn’t get much in the way of substance about Star Citizen. Players of the game can expect the Alpha 3.2 update to be coming sometime soon.

Don't Starve Hamlet:

Just Cause 4:

Overkills: The Walking Dead:

Overkill studios and 505 Games brings us their new IP based on a popular franchise, The Walking Dead.

Set in Washington D.C, Overkill’s The Walking Dead retains the series graphic nature, based on the hit AMC TV show. The new cinematic trailer shows off zombie and human killing action, this time with a 4-player co-op slant to it. Players will combine forces to take on the hordes of walkers, defending bases from their attacks and using the environment to the players advantage. We see coordinated attacks, such as shooting open gates to release walker’s against enemy humans, and using weapons such as a flare gun to signal help against massive hordes of walkers swarming the player.

Overkill studios does not really divulge too many details on their version of The Walking Dead today, but we do know the game will be launching later this year, on November 6th.

Just Cause 4:

Noita:

Nolla Games released a trailer for action roguelite platformer Noita at the PC Gaming Show E3 2018. Set in a world where every pixel is physically simulated, players can fight, explore, melt, burn, freeze and evaporate your way through the procedurally generated world using self-created spells. It is inspired by underground classics such as Liero, falling sand games, and “modern roguelike-likes, -lites and -lite-like-lites.”

Two Point Hospital:

Realm Royale:

Ooblets:

Anno 1880:

Ubisoft studio Blue Byte released a trailer for their new RTS Anno 1800 at the PC Gaming Show at E3 2018. Afterwards the game director joined the stage to talk about the game and how it was inspired by life in the 19th century. The Anno series started in 1998 with Anno 1602: Creation of a New World and has had several sequels since then.
