Crackdown 3 Developers Explain Why We Haven’t Heard Much Recently

4.4
Crackdown 3 was first announced for Xbox One by Microsoft all the way back in 2014, but the multiple delays and relative silence surrounding the project recently have worried many. That being said, Sumo Digital’s Managing Director Paul Porter tried to quell concerns in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, and actually stated the silence around the project is a good thing for both Crackdown 3 and its developers.

To preface his statement, Paul Porter clarified that Sumo Digital is “not used to being the ones shouting about it” as the game’s main developer. They were originally a studio known for working in the background on projects, and have only risen to prominence recently by being the main developer on games like Snake Pass, Crackdown 3, Team Sonic Racing, and Dead Island 2.

That being said, he still claims that this silence is good for the studio as they have been consistently working on the game over the past four years. Specifically, he says that there haven’t been many updates on Crackdown 3’s development over the past year “because it’s been given the time it needs and warrants to meet the expectations of that franchise.”

Sumo Digital knows that the franchise has some lofty expectations surrounding it, and is also aware that people were disappointed by Crackdown 2 so that’s “not the route that’s been taken with Crackdown 3.” Paul also clarified that the most recent delay to February just gives the developers more time to polish the project, which will only make the game better:

“…As you know the release date’s moved back, confirmed as February next year, and that’s great news because it gives us the time to polish a game that’s pretty much done, but make it better and better. The way to make the best games is you finish them, then finish them again, and then finish them again. That’s what we’re doing with Crackdown 3.”

While some may still be worried about Crackdown 3, it seems like the developers are happy with the product they are working on and are benefiting from the radio silence outside of things like the recent E3 trailer.

I'd agree that the longer the delay the more damage done.

LebronIs6 Finish them, finish them again, then again, and then flop. Got it, see ya in 2020 when it actually comes out.

Seems like the right plan if you think about it. All that gets released now a days are broken or incomplete games.

The fact is these, games that get delayed year after year are hype disappointments period

Petite This game seems to get a lot of hate but has hardly been shown, the 2nd crackdown was amazing and praised by critics. Let them finish this game the way they want to let them use their time the way they can if they feel like it's done then it's done and hopefully it'll be like the old days where games were constantly manipulated and broken to make advantages from try hard players.

Take ark for example that game actually released like as a full game and tbh still feel like it did day 1. It's stills broken sure it's great but why can't a game be great and not broken...

Crackdown 2 was slated by critics IRRC? I know the original was praised but number two was weak IMO.
