When Bungie stepped onto the Blizzard stage today at Gamescom, we knew it wasn’t going to be a good day for Nathan Fillion’s character Cayde-6. But what we got was pretty hard to watch if you’ve been a fan of his character in Destiny 2.

The cinematic, titled “Last Stand of the Gunslinger” pick up with Cayde-6 having just crash landed into the Prison of Elders, a place that fans of the series will know house a bunch of aliens who don’t like us.

Cayde-6’s humor last right up till the end as even his character recognizes that this is his last fight. We get a great look at the Scorn, a faction of mutated Fallen who are new to the game in the Forsaken expansion. And they seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to killing Guardians. In one final heart-breaking moment, Cayde-6’s ghost is destroyed–and with it, any hope of the Traveler’s light being able to revive him–and a Scorn Ravager sends him flying through a wall with a giant explosive flail.

Now I know that’s not a particularly good note to start your day off on, but we also got some good news:

The PvPvE mode “Gambit” new to Destiny 2: Forsaken will be available to all players on September 1st for one day only. Players will then have their chance to get into it again when the expansion releases.

Destiny 2: Forsaken comes out on September 4 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
