The Assassin’s Creed Series Will Not Have a 2019 Game

3.7
After releasing Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey later this year, the long-running franchise by Ubisoft will take another break. Speaking to Gamespot, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that the company will instead focus on post-release content for Odyssey.

On why Origins and Odyssey were able to launch one after the other, Guillemot explains that this was due to having separate teams on both projects.

“It’s just because the team [behind Assassin’s Creed] were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one.”

However, Guillemot was not entirely clear on whether or not a spin-off or some other title in the universe would release in its place—but the CEO did promise more with Odyssey in the year after its release.

“What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Assassin’s Creed Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually.”

We’ll have to wait and see on what this new content would entail, whether it would be a series of downloadable content packs, new single-player campaigns, or any combination of the two. Regardless, I speculate that Ubisoft wants Odyssey to be a long-running platform compared to previous games in the series.

Ubisoft took a similar breather before Origins, with Ubisoft taking 2016 off after a string of Assassin’s Creed games with mixed responses and technical problems. The time off paid well, according to Guillemot.

“[The time] gave the [Origins] team the possibility to really bring what they wanted to. The community has been responding very well to it and when I see what we are bringing with Odyssey I know that the community that got back in with Origins will be amazed.”

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, set in ancient Greece, will release on October 5 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

A game every year probably wasn't the best idea but I did love all the games.

I'm happy that there doing this...it stinks but in long run I would rather have a good AC game then a bad one tbh.

Also I just wish they ended the series with a Cliffhanger on ACIII with Desmond dying they should of changed that and have a last game of just being Desmond finishing out all the Templar's and just end the series there. Too late to do it now, maybe it sounds stupid but imo it's cool :P

Good. They should've ended this series a long time ago! They've killed it with too many games.

Honestly I think this series would be so much better if they didn't have a game every year. So I'm glad they're doing this.

Pretty upsetting, but a lot of work goes into these games so it makes sense
