After first teasing the High Stakes event, and later the Wild Card outfit in Fortnite, Epic Games has now shown off the first gameplay of the new Getaway limited-time mode.

The High Stakes limited event in Fortnite encompasses several new additions. First, there are High Stakes-specific challenges themed around casinos/gambling.

Then there’s Getaway, a limited-time mode which we got our first look at during a PAX West livestream overnight.

As you may have guessed, there is indeed a heist involved. Getaway starts off with four safes getting scattered around the map in supply drops. Several teams of four (squads) must now hunt down the safes. You only need one, but you must grab the llama jewel inside – that’s what you’re stealing.

From there, you’ll need to reach an extraction zone (van) without dying. Of course, you’ll also have to fend off other players. The first four teams to successfully extract with the llama jewel win the game.

During the stream, we also got our first look at the Grappler. The Grappler is pretty straightforward; and works as you’d expect it to.



As for the High Stakes Challenges, you’re going to have three of those to work towards. The first awards 5,000 XP for playing ten Getaway matches, the second tasks you with dealing 500 damage to jewel carrying opponents, and your reward is a spray.

Finally, the third – and likely most difficult – challenge is picking up the jewel in five different Getaway matches. Doing this awards you with a very unique sky diving trail that shoots out money.

Completing all three gets you a crowbar skin for your pickaxe.

Finally, the Wild Card skin will be available for purchase in the store. The outfit comes with four different mask variants.

All of this is coming to Fortnite this week. We’re still waiting on a release date for patch v5.40, which could drop as early as today.
