PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Falls Below 1 Million Concurrent Players

3.7
While Fortnite, which is now the most popular game in the world, has gone ahead and stolen all of its glory, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds remains incredibly successful in its own right—so successful that it went a full year maintaining a peak concurrent player count on Steam of over a million. It became the first game ever to do so in the process, according to SteamDB.

That’s fantastic—however, the news is bittersweet. SteamDB also reveals that on the day after that year had passed, the player concurrent count fell to 960,000 players- making this the first time in a year that it has dipped below a million. At its peak, PUBG had concurrent counts of 3 million, so this is definitely proof of some of its lost shine and lustre—other battle royale games now exist, and attract followings, too.

With the upcoming battle royale modes for Call of Duty and Battlefield, competition will only get even fiercer. While I am sure PUBG will always be popular, will it ever reclaim its lost heights? We’ll see if PUBG Corp can actually get the game back to its former stature.

I'm sure the blackout beta didn't help with this. I'm sure it will go back up though.

Because now that it is in full product release for Xbox one it still has major issues, That could be due to the fact that it is 100 players in a game and all, but it still needs major improvements, i still love the game and play it but they need to fix it, i still lag into some buildings when i parachute in

That's stilt a lot of users. They just need to keep making more improvements and start making pubg more unique and fun then other games in this arena!

The blackout will take over pubg for a while.

In my opinion situations like these where other developers are jumping on the bandwagon all it's going to do is give PUBG Corp a wake up call and push them in the right direction in terms of development. Hopefully we see a more suited game down the line because of the added pressure.

Privileged I think black out is going to take pubg off the map who's gunna play a badly made game over one that's made near enough perfect

Blackout is probably the most similar BR compared to PUBG. Feel like it's for sure gonna take a lot of the players. Not to mention, after Christmas when a lot of kids get cod, even more will leave PUBG

I will not touch Blops 4 BR on general principle. How many years have they failed us? How many years have they delivered the same game? I don't care if it's the #1 game in the world. I WILL NOT PLAY IT. Wake up people, they (basically) steal another game. Literally almost to the T. Catch me on fortnite, or catch me cleaning my house. I for one, boycott this game.

I do not disagree or agree with you, Fortnite pretty much stole the game too, so did anyone else who's made a BR, that's just how the world works my friend, but I will say Black Out is by far 100x better than PubG in my opinion < in current state I'm sure it'll improve > Fortnite, well I can't really stand that game anymore, I do not feel it's an actual BR, but regardless It's Cod, I've played it for years, I'll always play it because I have faith they'll bring it back, this time they have at least for me so far. :P

sucks to see PubG dropping, but probably is due to people trying out the Black Ops 4 Beta & I'm sure it'll drop even more when it drops on PC for Open Beta also...

Whelp, a few days later and it's fallen below one million.

Recently posted here was that it's maintained over a million players for over a year, next day this article pops up. There's a still a massive playerbase though of course but I imagine a lot of them have moved on to either Fortnite or just gotten bored of the BR genre.
