Rumor: 'Black Ops 4' May Only Have a Dozen Maps At Launch

4.6
When it comes out in just a few weeks, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have multiplayer options galore, including three Zombies campaigns; traditional multiplayer; and the new Blackout mode. However, one reports suggest that, when it comes to traditional multiplayer, there may not be as many maps as some players are hoping.

This comes via a report from Mp1st, which indicates that the game will only see around 12 maps when it launches this October. It did some calculating and came up with this number, including looking at the maps that were previously announced by Treyarch.

On top of that, only about two-thirds of those maps will be new, since four of them will be remakes of popular maps from previous Call of Duty games. And don’t forget that one of them will also be a variation of Nuketown, a fan favorite that’s continued to see traction in the Call of Duty games.

While speaking with Game Informer, studio design director David Vonderhaar was asked just how many maps would be available at launch. He didn’t provide an exact count, but did state that “you guys know” what all the maps are going to be.

For that matter, MP1st has provided a list, which you can see below. Keep in mind that Nuketown isn’t included.

Seven New Maps:

  • Arsenal
  • Contraband
  • Frequency
  • Gridlock
  • Hacienda
  • Payload
  • Seas Side

Four Remade Maps:
  • Firing Range
  • Jungle
  • Slums
  • Summit

The MP1st author made note that this was disappointing compared to previous games (which had around 15 maps or more), though it still offers a decent amount of variety for what players will be getting into next month. And who knows, Treyarch may have a surprise or two up their sleeve in time for the game’s launch, not to mention what it already has planned for post-release DLC, which will actually come much sooner than previous games. (That means you’ll be getting more maps to run through, provided you subscribe to the Black Ops Pass that’s being offered.)

We’ll see what pops up when Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Not enough to keep the game alive for long, they better address this and fast.

Doesn't surprise me, they seem to have less in like each game now which is dissapointing. But I mean at first it is ok when you're learning them.

Flat_Earth_SocietyPosted:

I don't see an issue with this (if its true), will allow players to learn the maps quicker than previous cods and will create more fast paced gameplay and may increase levelling speeds.

Eternity I don't know where this article got it's info, but this shouldn't be a surprise.

Black Ops 3 launched with 12 maps, too. Only later were maps added to the game.

I hope less maps means *better* maps. Then the number is more justified.

Exactly 12 maps has literally been the usual count in just about every game

And every game is a money pit that you have to pay for more maps for.

Ha, there's no denying that. Worst part is, most of the content in the DLC is likely content that just wasn't finished for the main release.

Dropping the campaign just proved their greed even more to me. I probably won't pick this game up until there are some steep discounts on it. Haven't bought a CoD game in a while because of the greed.

Damn Firing Range. I would of expected a few maps at launch but the remade ones have won me over they're dope

Not too bothered by this if this rumor is even true I like the remakes enough to be content with the game and I am sure they will bring plenty of new maps in the DLC.

Since when do games come out with more than 12 maps nowadays anyway? I mean WW2 only released with 9. Plus they are having to keep up with standard multiplayer and battle royale at the same time. They have always focused more on multiplayer than campaign. Even without campaign, I'm sure they have had to put more work into this game than previous games. And this is coming from someone who isn't even slightly interested in COD anymore.

Colzeyy a dozen is still a decent amount, me personally im not a fan of tons of maps

Yeah me too,i hate getting value for money,i wish it was more expensive too. With any luck the maps will be shit.

They never have loads of maps lol, nothing new here lmao. They will bring more maps out when they bring out a DLC you have to buy hahaha.

The amount of other work they've put into this game is good I will admit like zombies, blackout etc. I mean yeah I'm disappointed there's no campaign to the game but having 12 maps to start off with MP isn't bad as there will always be DLC with at least 3 or 4 new maps with the average of 3 DLC's
