Nintendo Switch Cloud Saves Will Have Six Month Grace Period

4.3
With the Nintendo Switch Online service being accessible to Switch owners for the past week, users are still trying to figure out some of the nuances of the service’s few features. An FAQ appeared to imply that cloud saves for games would disappear if the online subscription expired, but Nintendo clarified that users will have 180 days to recover the files and resubscribe should that happen.

Nintendo made the clarification through a statement to IGN, quelling any major concerns.

“If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups. However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups.”

Still, Switch owners are still irked that such an important feature such as cloud saves are locked behind a paywall. Not to mention, certain games like Splatoon 2 and Dark Souls: Remastered are not compatible with the feature due to concerns of online cheating; should someone were to lose or damage their Switch, these save files would be forever lost.

Roughly $20 a year just for online play and cloud saves might be a steep price for some people, so be sure to check out our guide on how to save money by setting up a Family Membership.

Ye 20 a year for online play? I wish xbox did this!

Xbox would never do that lol, Xbox is all about ripping us off and making tons of money. This is why I hate gaming now.

$20 a year is really cheap, will have to pick this for sure.

6 months seems fair, but it's not like saves take up much space.

Mikey $20 a year is a very fair price indeed, considering how much other gaming subscriptions are these days lol.

I would say that the price is pretty fair

Wizard Fair price can't lie but 6 months to recover you game jesus just don't delete them? I don't see the point

It does seem like a bit of a redundant thing to put in place..

Fair price, but the clouds only having a 6 month grace before they delete isn't cool, I like my xbox and having the cloud saves no matter what.
