With one of the most popular multiplayer releases of the year slated to be Fallout 76, it seems like Bethesda Softworks’ Senior VP of Communications Pete Hines began getting a ton of questions from fans on Twitter about whether or not this feature could potentially arrive in their game. Hines quickly dismissed this notion, however, and said it’s something they aren’t focused on at all right now.
Hines’ comment from Twitter is as follows:
Fallout 76 does not support crossplay, for a number of reasons. I have no idea if it ever will. But I assure you it is not on our radar right now as we focus on B.E.T.A. and Launch.
At this moment in time, Bethesda is likely more worried about their servers working properly on the launch day of Fallout 76, something they said as much in when revealing the game’s closed beta dates recently. Even though Sony is now somewhat playing ball when it comes to crossplay, the onus of implementing that feature is still always going to depend on the developer’s insistence on wanting to do it. In Bethesda and Fallout 76’s case, it just seems like a feature that is completely off of their radar at the moment.
Fallout 76 is slated to release later this Fall on November 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. And hey, if you didn’t already know, you can still pre-order it right now from Amazon to ensure yourself a spot in the closed beta next month.
Folks, chill. I work with a lot of devs and games for whom this is important going forward.
