It appears Blizzard isn’t actively working on Diablo 3 cross-platform play at present after all.
According to a statement sent over by a Blizzard representative, there are no plans to implement the feature at this time.
“While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time,” said the representative.
Earlier today, Business Insider reported a Blizzard representative said cross-platform with Diablo 3: Eternal Collection was a matter of “when, not if.”
The report went on to state the studio was actively working with partners at Sony and Microsoft to enable the feature.
Well, drat. Hopefully, this will be the case at some point in the future. The original story follows.
Original Story
Blizzard is working with both Sony and Microsoft to enable Diablo 3 cross-platform play with Switch.
Sony is taking baby steps with cross-platform play, and Blizzard is working with the company to enable it for Diablo 3: Eternal Collection.
Speaking with Business Insider, (thanks, Nintendo Life) a Blizzard representative said cross-platform with Diablo 3: Eternal Collection was a matter of “when, not if.”
While there’s no word on when it will happen, it’s just good to know the studio is working on cross-play between the other consoles.
It’s possible we may hear more at BlizzCon 2018 next month, but until it’s a done deal, we don’t expect a formal announcement.
Sony is currently testing the cross-play feature between consoles with Fortnite. The feature went into beta in late-September, and allows players to use their PS4 accounts for Fortnite on PC, Xbox One, Switch, as well as Android and iOS.
Switch owners can pick up Diablo 3: Eternal Collection November 2.
