This is the first major new major content update for Forza Horizon 4 since it launched at the beginning of the month, and the update is due out October 25 – which is this coming Thursday, for the benefit of those of you who are like me and don’t do the whole ‘calendar’ thing all that well. When it arrives, the long-awaited Route Creator mode will be available in the game, and in it you’ll be unbound from the set courses defined by the currently-existing Blueprint system.
But wait, there’s more: Windows Central says the content drop will also include a fifth ‘Horizon Story,’ which is “dedicated to all things British.” That’s ten more episodes of the game’s motoring television programme, which is of course legally distinct from an obscure little BBC show you may have heard of called Top Gear.
The update also includes the usual two-per-week cars for Car Pass holders, and some Halloween-themed flair for your avatar. But the star of the show in this is undoubtedly the Route Creator, and you can see how it works in this video:
The way it works is pretty terrific, and it takes a cue from Nintendo’s hit Mario Maker. To design a course, you just have to ‘paint’ it – by driving it in a car, naturally. You’ve got 40 miles to play with, and you can plop down a checkpoint just about anywhere you like. While you’re in Route Creator, you can pause, rewind, and fiddle with your settings as you please – just as you’d expect from a Forza title.
We liked Forza Horizon 4 quite a bit here, and apparently around 2 million people have decided to go hooning around Edinburgh too. The addition of Route Creator is exciting and adds a much-needed feature to a game that’s already running on all cylinders.
