Sony Quietly Revised the PS4 Pro to Make It Quieter & Quietly Released

4.6
Those considering upgrading to the PS4 Pro may find that the new model of the console hardware may have subtle differences. The new CUH-7200 of the 4K-capable machine is said to be slightly quieter than previous iterations of the hardware, albeit a bit warmer.

With the differences not being too evident, it makes sense that Sony hasn’t publicized the hardware changes. Upon inspection, the new PS4 Pro looks just about the same on the outside—however, the key difference this time around is the power connector. Instead of the PC-style three-prong connector of the initial hardware and the revised CUH-7100, the new CUH-7200 uses the smaller figure-8 connector that the PS4 Slim and Xbox One S utilizes.

The number crunchers at Digital Foundry have found that fan noise has been reduced from around 50dB (decibels)/55dB to around 44dB/48dB. Perhaps the difference will be minute and unnoticed to the untrained ear (i.e. myself), but those hyperaware of such characteristics may enjoy the revision for that reason. The launch model of the PS4 Pro may still run at cooler temperatures, but again, I doubt that too many would notice the difference.

Model CUH-7200 of the PS4 Pro is currently available in stores, and is the console included in the Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Pro bundle. It is likely that as stores sell away their PS4 Pro stock, Sony will ship more units of the new model en masse to stores worldwide just in time for the holiday season.

They're small iterations, and I still think that Xbox has a large advantage over the pro with their X.
