Over on Twitter today, Rocksteady’s co-founder Sefton Hill revealed that Rocksteady will not have anything to announce during the show. Despite saying that he is looking forward to The Game Awards, Hill said that Rocksteady will not be participating. “We’re still hard at work in our development bunker so don’t expect an announcement from @Rocksteadygames,” Hill tweeted.
Perhaps even more interesting than confirming that the studio will have no part in The Game Awards though is that Hill also debunked the much-rumored project that many thought Rocksteady was working on. For years at this point, rumors have swirled that Rocksteady’s next project will be related to Superman, the classic DC superhero. Considering their past work with Batman and a slew of “leaks” that didn’t have much backing them up, the advent of a Superman video game being worked on by Rocksteady seemed to have potential. Hill, however, ended his tweet today by telling fans that the current project that the studio is developing isn’t related to Superman, now finally seeming to end the longstanding rumors.
While it’s a shame that we won’t see what Rocksteady is working on next week at The Game Awards, at least we can now finally end the Superman talk that has surrounded the company forever at this point. If anything, shooting down this rumor has made me even more interested in what Rocksteady is creating. Hopefully, a reveal of this new project can be in the cards for 2019.
Looking forward to #TheGameAwards this year! We’re still hard at work in our development bunker so don’t expect an announcement from @Rocksteadygames. When it’s ready to show, you’ll be the first to know. Spoiler: it’s not Superman 😳
