Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield is leaving Activision

Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield will depart Activision at the end of the month.

Schofield, who was also the former vice president and GM at Dead Space studio EA Visceral Games, has been with Activision since the company purchased his studio in November 2009.

He and Michael Condrey, who is now in an executive role at Activision, formed Sledgehammer Games in 2009. Back in February, like Condrey, he had moved on from the studio into an executive role at the publisher after finishing up Call of Duty: WW2.

Now, he is leaving the company.

“I feel it’s time to try something new,” Schofield stated on Twitter. “I’ll be leaving Activision end of December and taking some time off to relax. Then off to something else exciting.”


In an interview with Gamespot, Schofield said he has “nothing but good things to say” about his time at Activision,” but after nine years of Call of Duty games he “needs a change.”

“I seriously am going to take my time finding my next gig,” he said. “Make sure it’s exactly what I want to do. I still have a couple good games in me.”

Activision and their subsequent development studios need to find a way to make Call of Duty feel like how it used to while modernizing it and improving upon what's there. Obviously they can't just copy and paste games, something needs to be added to give the game a fresh new take. The issue, to me, seems to be that they are very out of touch with their market and either don't know what we want or are simply running out of steam. I hope to see a successful Call of Duty in the near future but changes like those mentioned here must be made to give the series a brighter future.

He wasn't it, remember both him and condrey refused to fix the game and as a result got taken off as head directors then the game did good. WW2 at launch was awful.

That's unfortunate, I really enjoyed WWII and think it was the best Cod since MW2.

& MW3..

As for him leaving i don't mind at all honestly they've only made 1 game that's actually decent and that's mw3 they where responsible for AW which is just a nope.. and WW2 although it tried it was just way too stale. Cod should go back to 2 development cycles in my opinion seemed to work better back then.
