It’s worth noting though that if you have already pre-ordered Metro Exodus on PC via Steam or another platform, Deep Silver will continue its commitment to those purchases. If you bought the game on Steam, you’ll still be able to download it through that marketplace come launch day. This also goes for all future DLC that the game will receive. For example, if you have Metro Exodus on Steam, you’ll still have access to purchasing the downloadable content at a later date once it releases. Pre-orders for Steam though will be closing as of today.
Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver, gave the following statement on the decision to release Metro Exodus in this manner and the reasons why they believe it will benefit the game:
“We are delighted to partner with Epic to bring the digital PC version of Metro Exodus to market. Epic’s generous revenue terms are a game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation, or pass on savings to the players. By teaming up with Epic we will be able to invest more into the future of Metro and our ongoing partnership with series developer 4A Games, to the benefit of our Metro fans.”
Deep Silver also made brief mention that both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux will also be arriving on the Epic Games Store later this year. Metro Exodus itself will also retail for $49.99 on the storefront compared to the $59.99 price that it was on Steam. It seems that with better margins, Deep Silver could potentially afford to sell the game at a lower cost.
This is the second major game of this first quarter of 2019 that has opted to spurn other digital distributors in the pursuit of partnering with Epic. The other title, that of The Division 2, will also be launching exclusively through the Epic Games Store–along with Ubisoft’s Uplay–when it releases come March. This definitely seems to be a growing trend among publishers and it’ll be interesting to see how many more exclusive titles Epic can bring to its platform.
Metro Exodus is scheduled to launch next month on February 15 and will be coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
