After years of waiting, Crackdown 3 is finally slated to release later this week. While its a release that many have surely been anticipating for quite some time, oddly enough, its multiplayer element seemingly won’t boast a rather basic feature at launch.
According to Joseph Staten, Senior Creative Director at Microsoft Studios, Crackdown 3’s Wrecking Zone multiplayer game mode will not allow you to team up with friends — at least, not out of the box. Staten revealed this information on Twitter when responding to a fan who asked about partying up with friends on Crackdown 3. While confirming that this feature won’t be available on day one, Staten said that they’ll reveal more information about future content updates after release.
In all honesty, this is a really strange omission to Crackdown 3. If you’re going to play a multiplayer game, more often than not, aren’t you going to want to play with a friend who also owns the same game? This seems like such a logical thing to include out of the gate with any multiplayer experience in 2019. It’s so odd that those who will be playing Wrecking Zone on day one won’t be able to jump into the same game as their friend. Especially when considering that Crackdown 3 will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, you’d imagine many more people will have access to the title and would be looking to play together.
This news comes off the back of a network test for Crackdown 3’s multiplayer which occurred over the past few days. The demo was only available to Xbox Insiders though so if you weren’t able to get in, that may have been why. Personally, I haven’t been able to play Wrecking Zone just yet, but I’m looking forward to playing it when I get the chance.
Not for day one, no. Stay tuned for updates on our plans post-launch.
