On February 16th, an unlicensed and unofficial ‘Fortnite Live Norwich’ festival was hosted in the east of England. The Eventbrite page promised things such as ‘live games’, ‘dance battles’, ‘awsome [sic] activities’, and ‘screens of your favourite YouTubers playing non-stop’.
The reality was much worse than that. The festival had a ‘cave experience’, which was little more than a trailer with a tarpaulin over it. One eventgoer tweeted that there was ‘1 climbing wall between 3000+ children’ and ‘4 go karts between the same amount’.
@EDP24 fortnite live event. 1 climbing wall between 3000+ children. 4 go karts between the same amount, nobody dressed up as characters, people still queuing 2hrs after gates open. Absolutely awful #fortnite #fortnitelive pic.twitter.com/D8laYvzbpG

The Eventbrite page lists ticket prices between £14 ($18.26) and £20 ($26.09), not including activities. Eastern Daily Press reported that many visitors were also charged £20 for a wristband that ‘allowed access to all activities’ on top of ticket fees.
In a statement issued to Eurogamer today, Epic confirmed that they were taking legal action. An Epic Games spokesperson said the following:
“The quality of our player experience is incredibly important to us, whether it’s inside the game or at official public events like last year’s Fortnite Pro-Am. Epic Games was not in any way associated with the event that took place in Norwich and we’ve issued a claim against the organisers in the High Court of London.”
However, the organizer of the not-so-epic event told the Eastern Daily Press that not only would the festival be back, it’d be ‘bigger and better‘. As Epic Games are pursuing legal recourse, it’s currently not too clear how that’s going to happen.
